  Listening Helps  
 
People nowadays have a very short attention span.  They do not have the patience to listen.  Thatís why most people tend to miss out on the important details.  This is especially true to some individuals, especially employees who undergo skills training.  Some of the trainees think that they already have what it takes to produce results.  This kind of attitude usually happens in a telemarketing company.  They do not see the need for retraining because they know that it is all about results. Why waste your time on skills training when you can spend it effectively doing calls to clients?  In this way they could increase there sales.  This way of thinking is a misconception.  There is no such thing as nothing to learn.  Everyday the market keeps changing.  You need to be up to date with current events and trends.  

Listening is certainly one of the most important virtues of a telemarketing sales person.  This is the crucial aspect when doing sales through phone.  It is understandable that there are certain skills required when doing phone conversations like pressure sales.  However, it is important to take into consideration that you need to listen at times.  Talking without listening sometimes is ineffective because it would take longer time to convince clients when doing so.  But when you listen, you could learn something about your client.  Allowing him to talk for a bit or react provides you a verbal cue.  When you know the meaning of his verbal cues, you could be able to determine the mode of action you are going to take.  

It is understandable why some telemarketers forget to listen because they have been training their skills on pressure sales.  Meaning, they have limited time to close deals and the pressure of meeting the quota for sales output do not help.  Training themselves to be fast and efficient does not give time to listen.  Telemarketers are so concerned on doing their own thing that they did not take into account verbal cues.  Talking and listening at the same time requires great skills to master.  In time you would be able to master them.  Training you listening skills is essential.  In order to meet clients demands.   

You need not listen for a long period of time.  It can be done while you are conveying your message.  Listening to clients would only be seconds at most.  That is why there is a need for you to be attentive at all times.  Being able to read clients reactions or behavior requires training.  It is not expected that you could easily develop such skill right away.  Improving your listening skill requires consistent practice.  In time, you could be able to listen attentively.  You could be able to determine client tendencies by his verbal reactions.  Capitalizing on clientís response gives you an edge among other sales representatives, resulting in a higher productivity and increased sales. Listening complimented with other skills would be the best method in producing results when you are doing on the spot phone purchase.
